LA Tech Softball Hosts Nicholls State

April 1, 2013

RUSTON - Louisiana Tech will put its modest four-game winning streak on the line Tuesday when the Lady Techsters host Nicholls State in a mid-week non-conference game at the Lady Techster Softball Complex.

Tech (17-15, 4-2 WAC) has won four in a row - one over Northwestern State and three over UT Arlington - while outscoring its opponents 25-5 in those games. Nicholls State (15-18) has won five of its last seven games, including taking two out of three this past weekend against Houston Baptist in a Southland Conference home series.

Tuesday's matchup will be the second of the year between the two teams with the Lady Techsters defeating the Colonels 3-0 in the opening weekend of the season back in early February. In that game, Tech used a solo home run from Dacia Hale to take the early lead and then got a stellar pitching performance by Michelle Jones and Janna Frandrup to record the shutout.

LA Tech ranks 26th nationally in team batting average at .319, 47th in doubles per game at 1.41, 62nd in scoring at 5.28 and 6th in stolen bases per game at 2.28.

The Lady Techsters boast eight regulars batting above .300 led by Melanie Goff (.434, 21 RBI), Kristen Miles (.396, 26 runs, 12-13 SB), Erin Kipp (.376, 13 doubles, 10-12 SB), Anna Cross (.360, 4 HR, 23 RBI, 17-18 SB), Meghan Knowles (.329, 3 HR, 13 RBI), Alayna Kipp (.316, 2 HR, 13 RBI), Janna Frandrup (.315, 14 RBI) and Amanda Krueger (.305, 4 HR, 17 RBI, 10-11 SB).

In the circle, Tech has received solid pitching recently as it relies on the arms of Anna Cross (4-2, 2.87), Michelle Jones (9-8, 3.13), Goff (1-1, 2.82, 2 saves).

Nicholls State is led offensively by Ashley Bertot (.343, 23 runs, 11-13 SB), Brittany Marcet (.333, 8 doubles, 17 RBI), and Leah Andrus (.318, 7 doubles, 17 RBI) as the Colonels are batting .259 on the year with only nine home runs.

In the circle, Nicholls State relies on three arms in Ashton Bennett (9-9, 2.92 ERA), Hannah Haydel (6-6, 3.08 ERA) and Katie Moulder (0-3, 3.13 ERA).
