BATON ROUGE - Louisiana Tech's Melanie Goff and Anna Cross swept the Louisiana Sports Writers Association [LSWA] Hitter and Pitcher of the Week awards Friday as voted up by the state's sports information directors.
A senior utility player for the Lady Techsters, Goff hit safely and recorded RBIs in all four of Louisiana Tech's wins on the week highlighted by a series sweep of UT Arlington. She went 8-for-10 at the plate fueled by four doubles and racked up eight RBIs. The San Diego, Calif., native reached base safely in 12 of 13 plate appearances on the week while recording RBIs on seven of her eight hits.
A freshman hurler for Tech, Cross racked up a 3-0 record with a 1.75 ERA after entering the week with only one win of the season. She tossed a one-hit shutout and tallied five strikeouts in her first career shutout win over Northwestern State, a team who entered the contest with a .321 team batting average. The Cross Roads, Texas, native added a pair of wins during Tech's sweep of UT Arlington and tossed her first seven-inning complete game in the series opener.
It's the third career weekly award for Goff and first for Cross from the LSWA.
