@LATechSB, NSU Meet Wednesday in Natchitoches
April 24, 2018
NATCHITOCHES, La. – Louisiana Tech and Northwestern State will meet for the second time this season when the Lady Techsters travel south Wednesday for a 6 p.m. match-up at Lady Demon Diamond.
The contest will be broadcast through the Louisiana Tech X mobile app with Malcolm Butler providing the call of the action. A live video stream will be available through a paid subscription at nsudemons.com.
Tech (30-18) won the first meeting of the year, defeating Northwestern State (24-19) 9-7 in Ruston back on March 21 in Ruston. The Lady Techsters rallied from a 4-0 first inning deficit to defeat Northwestern State and improve to 55-48 all-time in the series.
Head coach Mark Montgomery’s team has a week off from Conference USA action after taking two of three from UAB in a No. 1 vs. No. 2 showdown in Ruston this past weekend. The Lady Techsters sit atop the league standings with a 15-6 record and enter the final regular season weekend at UTEP on May 5-6 with the regular season conference title on the line.
In addition to Wednesday night’s contest against NSU, Tech will travel to McKinney, Texas to face Utah State at Craig’s Ranch Friday at 7 p.m. and Saturday at 2 p.m.
Three-time Conference USA Pitcher of the Week Preslee Gallaway has anchored the LA Tech pitching staff, winning eight straight decisions in league play, including picking up two complete-game victories over the Blazers this past week. Gallaway leads Conference USA in wins (16) and league wins (10) and ranks in the top 5 in ERA (2.34), strikeouts (119) and opponent batting average (.229).
Bailey Allen (2-1, 3.30), Krystal De La Cruz (3-8, 3.71), Jenny Chapman (1-0, 2.90) and Erin McDonald (3-0, 1.31) have all pitched meaningful innings in league play and should all see action during the three non-conference games this week.
Offensively, Tech has seen an uptick in production at the plate. Morgan Turkoly (.407, 37 runs, 23 RBI, 15-19 SB) owns a 34-game reach base safely streak entering the week, the longest in Conference USA all season. Sloane Stewartson (.385, 4 HR, 21 RBI), Kimmie Atienza (.317, 26 runs, 11-14 SB), Jazlyn Crowder (.252, 29 runs, 21-23 SB) and Katie Smith (.242, 22 runs, 21 RBI, 24-24 SB) have joined Turkoly as some of Tech’s top run producers this year.
Northwestern State freshman Cayla Jones has led the Demons at the plate all season, sporting an impressive .415 average with 9 home runs and 33 RBI. Jones missed a couple of weeks recently with an injury but is back now for head coach Donald Pickett.
Micaela Bouvier (12-8, 2.07 ERA), Mikayla Brown (9-7, 3.18 ERA), and E.C. Delafield (3-3, 3.50 ERA) have seen the majority of innings in the circle for the Lady Demons this season.
