RUSTON - This weekend will be the final home regular season series for six Louisiana Tech seniors when the Lady Techsters host UTSA in a three-game Western Athletic Conference match-up Friday and Saturday at the Lady Techster Softball Facility.
The series opens Friday with a 5 p.m. doubleheader followed by Saturday's 1 p.m. single game.
Seniors Janna Frandrup, Melanie Goff, Dacia Hale, Michelle Jones, Meghan Knowles and Amanda Krueger will lead the Lady Techsters (22-22, 7-8) into this weekend against the Roadrunners (23-21, 6-9) and all six will be honored following Saturday's final game.
It is also the Lady Techster Alumni Weekend as former players from throughout the history of the program are invited back for the games as well as a cookout following senior ceremonies on Saturday.
Tech enters this weekend tied for fourth place in the WAC standings with Texas State, only one game behind third place Seattle and only one game ahead of sixth place UTSA. Thus, this weekend's games are critical to the seeding for the upcoming WAC Tournament which will be hosted by LA Tech May 8-11.
The Lady Techsters are 6-4 at home this year and are still ranked as the top hitting team in the WAC with their .303 average. Kristen Miles (.366, 33 runs, 15-18 SB), Goff (.352, 28 RBI), Krueger (.344, 6 HR, 25 RBI, 34 runs), Anna Cross (.340, 6 HR, 27 RBI, 19-21 SB), Erin Kipp (.333, 3 HR, 18 RBI, 11-14 SB), Frandrup (.305, 23 RBI), Knowles (.300, 5 HR, 16 RBI), Alayna Kipp (.287, 2 HR, 15 RBI) and Hale (.223, 5 HR, 18 RBI) continue to lead LA Tech offensively.
UTSA is one of the top defensive teams in the WAC, registering only 39 errors in 44 games this year. The Roadrunners rely offensively on Darian Blake (.372, 8 RBI), Megan Low (.328, 5 HR, 25 RBI), Vivian Tijerina (.327, 5 HR, 20 RBI), Jolene Graham (.325, 1 HR, 15 RBI) and Siera Sproul (.318, 6 HR, 19 RBI).
Halyee Staton (11-8, 2.67 ERA) and Alyssa Vordenbaum (9-9, 2.89) are the two starters for the Roadrunners in the circle while Graham (3-4, 4.51) has seen time in relief.
UTSA leads the all-time series 7-1, including winning the last seven meetings. Tech's lone win over UTSA was a 6-0 victory in 1992. The two schools have not met since the 2005 season.
