Kabbes Promoted to Senior Associate Athletics Director
April 25, 2018
RUSTON, La. -- Louisiana Tech Athletics Director Tommy McClelland announced Wednesday that he has promoted Paul Kabbes to senior associate athletics director in charge of external.
Kabbes will replace Marco Born, hired as the athletics director at Lamar University two weeks ago. He moves over to his new role after serving the past year as associate athletics director for athletic development.
"Paul has been a great addition to our senior leadership team within athletics," said McClelland. "He brought a tremendous amount of knowledge from various universities that helped serve our student athletes, coaches, donors and fans. He has gained a lot of respect over the past year with our donors and our staff in regards to his fundraising efforts. This role will allow him to expand upon those relationships as well as develop new ones."
In his new role with athletics, Kabbes oversees external operations, including ticketing and marketing while serving as the liaison with LA Tech Sports Properties and Aspire. He is heavily involved in athletic fundraising while also serving on the athletics senior staff and as the sport administrator for men's basketball.
"I am very appreciative for this opportunity through Tommy McClelland and Dr. (Les) Guice to continue serving Louisiana Tech University," said Kabbes. "We have outstanding potential with our donors, alumni, and student-athletes, and I look forward to assisting in the growth of this athletics department with our coaches and staff on a daily basis. I am grateful for the mentorship of Vice President Brooks Hull during the past 14 months within the Louisiana Tech University Foundation."
Kabbes joined Louisiana Tech on March 1, 2017 after spending two years as the associate athletics director for external relations at the University of Illinois Springfield. He has also made stops at UAB and Illinois State during his career.
During the previous 14 months in Ruston, Kabbes was responsible for securing private support for the University's athletic programs with an emphasis on major gifts. He provided oversight for the Louisiana Tech Athletic Club (LTAC) while providing direct supervision for the Director of LTAC, Coordinator of Athletic Advancement, and Graduate Assistant for LTAC.
Together with his team, LTAC finished the 2016-17 fiscal year with a record amount in dollars raised, surpassing $1.5 million for the first time ever -- a nearly 20 percent increase from the previous fiscal year.
