RUSTON - Play was halted early Thursday evening at the 2013 Western Athletic Conference Softball Championships with UT Arlington leading UTSA 2-0 heading into the top of the seventh inning.
With severe thunderstorms hitting the north Louisiana area around 6 p.m. tournament officials halted play with lightning in the area and the tarp was pulled over the infield and the teams, fans and tournament officials evacuated the facility.
The halted game is scheduled to resume Friday at 10 a.m. weather-permitting followed by Louisiana Tech's elimination game against Texas State at 11:30 a.m. The tournament will then resume its normal schedule with a 2 p.m. game between San Jose State and New Mexico State, the only two remaining undefeated teams in the four-day event.
LA Tech fell to the loser's bracket after falling 3-0 to New Mexico State early Thursday afternoon. The Lady Techsters could play as many as three games on Friday as long as they continue to win with potential contests set for 11:30 a.m., 4:30 p.m. and 7 p.m.
