LAS CRUCES, N.M. - Although only six members from the 2008 WAC Tournament champion team remain on this year's roster, Louisiana Tech has plenty of memories left from the magical four-day run in Hawaii which earned the program its first NCAA Tournament appearance in 13 years.
The Lady Techsters enter this week's tournament at New Mexico State Softball Complex with only one goal before them - a second NCAA Tournament berth in three years.
LA Tech is the No. 4 seed in this year's event - just like in 2008 - and the Lady Techsters have the luxury of drawing from the success of the last two WAC Tournament appearances.
In 2008, Tech won four games in four consecutive days over Top 25 teams on its way to the tournament title. Last season, the Lady Techsters won their first two games over No. 3 seed Hawaii and No. 2 seed Nevada before falling to eventual champion Fresno State and then Nevada in a one-run extra inning heartbreaker.
Tech begins its 2010 quest Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. CT when it faces No. 5 seed San Jose State (32-23, 8-13 WAC), a team that the Lady Techsters defeated two out of three times in California earlier this year.
The contest will be broadcast live on KPCH 99.3 FM with the pregame show starting at 5:15 p.m. Subscribers of LA Tech All-Access can also listen to the audio of the contest while fans can also purchase a subscription to video/audio of the game through WAC.tv at www.wacsports.com.
Tech is one of only six teams that qualified for the tournament as the field consists of No. 1 seed Hawaii, No. 2 Fresno State, No. 3 Boise State, LA Tech, No. 5 San Jose State and No. 6 New Mexico State.
