23 Tech Student-Athletes Earn Academic Honors

RUSTON - Twelve Louisiana Tech student-athletes earned Western Athletic Conference All-Academic accolades for the spring quarter, according to a release sent out by the league office Monday.

Earning league all-academic honors for the spring sports were softballers Leah Beasley, Erin Chernicky, Amber Miles, Brittany Stanley and Sabra Warner, tennis players Anabell Duque and Holly Ready, and track athletes Jeff McGehee, Kaia Durrant-Naire, Sara Gelin, Keely Perkins and Chante Threets.

The addition of the 12 spring sports academic recipients brings Tech's total number of WAC all-academic honorees for the 2002-03 year up to 21. To qualify, a student-athlete must have completed at least one academic year, have at least a 3.2 cumulative grade point average and have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's contests.

Eleven first year Tech student-athletes also earned league honors on the academic All-WAC freshmen/transfer team, including Mims Boyce (Baseball), Bridget Broadnax (Softball), Derek Busby (Golf), Mary Cohn (Softball), Brenda Grace-Hunt (Track and Field), Danielle Landry (Tennis), Jordan Lang (Football), Edward McCall (Track and Field), Carley Moyers (Volleyball), Angie Roe (Track and Field), Kristin Rupp (Softball).
