RUSTON - Louisiana Tech head coach Mark Montgomery and the Lady Techster softball team will host three fall games Saturday at the Lady Techster Softball Complex.
The Lady Techsters will play LSU-Alexandria at 11 a.m. and Centenary at 3:30 p.m. LSU-Alexandria and Centenary are scheduled to play at 1:15 p.m. Admission to all three games is free.
Tech returns nine letterwinners and four starters off of last year's team which recorded a winning record and the program's highest Western Athletic Conference finish ever. Sophomore pitcher/utility Anna Cross, sophomore outfielder Kristen Miles, junior catcher Alayna Kipp and senior infielder Erin Kipp are the four returning starters although Alayna Kipp will be out this fall while recovering from off-season surgery.
Montgomery and Co. also welcome nine newcomers, including six freshmen, one junior college transfer and two Division I transfers. The Lady Techsters have been working out for the past few weeks and Montgomery is eager to see his young squad which boasts only one senior against outside competition.
"We have seen a lot of great things in practice," Montgomery said. "We want to see it in a game setting. We have seen flashes on defense, but we want to see it more consistently. We want to see our pitching continue to grow. It has looked really, really good thus far. We want to see our hitters become better and take a step forward.
"Our pitching has been solid this fall. The girls have done a really good job. Anna pitched last year and has taken her game to another level. Bianca (Duran) and Pauline (Tufi) have come out and thrown well so far. I will be anxious to see how they do against other competition."
"It's going to be a work in progress," he said. "The skill sets are there. It's getting the communication down and seeing how all the pieces come together."
