@LATechSB Hosts Fall Games Saturday

Oct. 11, 2013

RUSTON - For the second consecutive Saturday, the Louisiana Tech softball team will play a pair of fall games when head coach Mark Montgomery and Co. host Kilgore College at 11 a.m. and Northwestern State at 3:30 p.m. at the Lady Techster Softball Complex.

Admission is free. Kilgore and Northwestern State will also play each other in a game that is scheduled to start at 1:15 p.m.

The Lady Techsters are 2-0 on the fall season after defeating LSU-Alexandria 3-1 and Centenary 14-0 (4 innings) last Saturday. Tech was led offensively by freshman Pauline Tufi, sophomore Anna Cross and junior Bianca Duran who combined to go 8-of-15 with three doubles, two home runs and 12 RBI. As a team LA Tech hit .370 in the two wins.

"I think it was an approach more than anything," said Montgomery, referring to his team's improvement in game two. "We were anxious in game one; out in front and early. We relaxed in the second game. LSU-A had better pitching, but we calmed down and just had a better approach."

Defensively, the Lady Techsters didn't commit a single error in 51 opportunities as Montgomery was pleased with what he saw.

"We were stellar in the field; that was one of the bright spots," Montgomery said. "We made every routine play and made a couple of plays look routine that weren't. We had a couple of good plays at second base. Hailey made a nice one at third and we made some nice plays in the outfield. Overall, I was extremely pleased."

In the circle, the trio of Cross, Duran and Tufi held LSU-A and Centenary in check.

"The pitchers did a really good job," Montgomery said. "We had one walk in two games. I think we only gave up four hits. It was an outstanding effort by all three. Pauline was able to get rid of some freshman jitters. I thought overall they were all dynamic. Bianca and Anna both were 100 percent in control."

Following Saturday's games against Kilgore and Northwestern State, the Lady Techsters will host Bossier Parish Community College Friday, Oct. 18 at 7 p.m. and UL-Monroe Saturday, Oct. 19 at 10 a.m. It will also be Alumni Weekend as an Alumni Game is scheduled for Sunday at 11 a.m. For more information on Alumni Weekend, email jdouglas@latech.edu or coachm@latech.edu.
