Tech Releases 2013 Softball Schedule

RUSTON - Four tournaments, a home doubleheader against SEC foe Ole Miss, 21 Western Athletic Conference games and hosting the 2013 WAC Tournament highlight Louisiana Tech's 2013 softball schedule released on Tuesday.
Louisiana Tech first year head coach Mark Montgomery and Co. return 12 letter winners and eight starters from a year ago while welcoming four high school prep stars to the roster in Ruston.
LA Tech's 53-game regular season schedule includes early season tournaments at Southeastern Louisiana, McNeese State, Southern Miss and Northwestern State as the Lady Techsters play their first 25 games on the road or at neutral sites. Tech's home opener is set for March 20 against Stephen F. Austin.
Tech will open the year the weekend of Feb. 8-10 at the Jimmy John's Lion Classic in Hammond where it will face Tennessee-Martin, Jacksonville State, Nicholls State, Delaware and St. Louis. The following weekend Tech travels to Lake Charles to compete in a three-day event hosted by McNeese State where the Lady Techsters face Alcorn State (twice), Southern, Houston Baptist and McNeese State.
Future Conference USA opponent Southern Miss will host a two-day event the weekend of Feb. 23-24 where Tech will play the Golden Eagles and Northwestern State twice each. The final tournament will be held March 1-3 when the Lady Techsters travel to Natchitoches to face UL-Monroe (twice), Northwestern State (twice) and Alcorn State.
Tech's toughest non-conference matchups will include a mid-week doubleheader at perennial national power UL-Lafayette March 13 and a home doubleheader against Ole Miss April 24.
The Lady Techsters league schedule includes 21 games as the WAC will have a new look this year with the addition of Texas State, UTSA, Seattle and UT Arlington and the departure of Fresno State, Hawaii and Nevada. Tech will host UT Arlington, San Jose State and UTSA in three-game WAC series while traveling to play New Mexico State, Utah State, Texas State and Seattle.
Following the completion of the regular season, Louisiana Tech will serve as the host for the 2013 Western Athletic Conference Tournament which will be held May 8-10 in Ruston.
