
![]() Tennis Opens Season with 4-3 Win over Central Arkansas

RUSTON, La. - Louisiana Tech started the Freddy Gomez era on the right foot as the Techsters edged out Central Arkansas, 4-3, in Tech’s season opener. Tech (1-0) claimed the double point as Vivian ten Dolle and Manoela Chicchio topped the tandem of Allison Murphy and Krizia Buck, 8-4, at No. 1 doubles. Melanie Urvoy and Taly Merker also claimed an 8-4 win, topping Simona Horsikyan and Sahsa Ruocco of Central Arkansas (0-3) to claim the doubles point. UCA claimed at win at No. 2 singles to tie the match, 1-1, as Murphy edged Chiacchio, 6-1, 6-0 before ten Dolle’s 6-1, 6-1 win over Horsikyan gave Tech the 2-1 advantage. The Sugar Bears event the match at two points apiece as Buyukyan edged Sophie Heldoorn at No. 6 singles, 6-3, 6-0. Merker’s 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 4 singles over Krizia Buck pushed Tech to a 3-2 match advantage and Urvoy clinched the Techster victory with a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 3 singles. Rounding out the singles pairings, UCA’s Ruocco edged Tech’s Erofeyeva in the closest singles contest of the day with a 6-3, 2-6 1-0 (8) win. Louisiana Tech returns to action next Saturday, Feb. 2 with a noon match at home against Southeastern Louisiana.
