RUSTON, La. – In the first contest of a quadruple header for Louisiana Tech Athletics Saturday afternoon, the Lady Techster tennis team defeated Texas-Pan American 6-1 at the Lady Techster Tennis Complex.
LA Tech improves to 5-2 on the year while the Broncos are now 1-4.
The Lady Techsters began the afternoon by winning all three doubles matches to pick up the doubles point as the team of seniors Elne Barnard and Anna Zurek shutout the team of Malin Andersen and Suncica Strkic 8-0 at the No. 1 position.
In singles actions, junior Alena Erofeyeva did not lose as point (6-0, 6-0) against Cindy Sands at the No. 6 spot as Erofeyeva remained undefeated in the spring at 7-0.
Barnard only lost one point in her match (6-0, 6-1) in the No. 3 position against Strkic as Barnard improved to 6-1 on the year.
In the No. 2 match, junior Vivian ten Dolle got back in the win column in a tough fought match against Andersen (6-4, 6-3) while freshman Laura Fernandez picked up her second victory of the dual season at the No. 1 spot (6-2, 6-3) over Dana Nazarova.
Also picking up a win was sophomore Melanie Urvoy (6-2, 6-1) against Bianca G. Izaguirre in the No. 5 position.
UTPA’s lone point came at the No. 4 spot as Wanda Beguelin defeated freshman Maria Coronel in straight sets.
Louisiana Tech returns to action on Friday, March 2 at 2 p.m. as they host San Jose State in their first Western Athletic Conference match of the season.
