BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Louisiana Tech tennis team pulled out a hard fought 5-2 win over Middle Tennessee on Saturday afternoon to extend its winning streak to seven matches.
The battle started right off the bat between LA Tech (7-1, 2-0 C-USA) and MT (5-3, 1-1 C-USA) with the doubles point. The duo of Jazmin Britos and Manoela Chiacchio delivered an 8-6 win at the No. 2 spot, but the Blue Raiders countered at No. 1 with an 8-7 (2) victory in the tiebreaker.
"This was an up and down match," said head coach Chad Camper. "The women found a way to win the doubles point and that really set the tone. Manoela and Joanna came up big in getting us up 3-0 quick, but Middle Tennessee responded and it was a battle for us to get that fourth point."
Chiacchio quickly knocked off the Blue Raiders Sediri, 6-1, 6-2 at No. 6. Joanna Nalborska followed with a defeat of Jesse Grace, 6-4, 6-0 at No. 2.
The Blue Raiders got on the board with a straight sets win at No. 5, but it was Britos for the Lady Techsters who clinched it at No. 4 with a score of 7-5, 6-4.
An insurance point came from Sramkova who gutted out a three-set win after dropping the first set.
LA Tech will stay in Birmingham, Ala. to take on another Conference USA foe in UAB on Sunday at 12 p.m.
