RUSTON, La. – The Louisiana Tech tennis team fell to San Jose State 6-1 Friday afternoon at the Lady Techster Tennis Complex.

The loss was the first at home this season for the Lady Techsters and drops their record to 5-3 and 0-1 in Western Athletic Conference play while the Spartans improve to 4-3 overall and 1-0 in the conference.

Junior Alena Erofeyeva won at the No. 5 position (4-6, 6-3, 7-6 (7-4)) over Jessica Willett for the only point on the day for Tech. With the win, Erofeyeva improves to 8-0 in the spring in singles competition.

At the No. 3 spot, senior Elne Barnard fell in a hard fought match against Chau Truong (7-5, 7-6 (8-6)).

SJSU won the double point as they picked up victories in two of the three matches. The team of senior Maartje de Wit and junior Vivian ten Dolle did win their match 8-6 over the paring of Alexis Marquez and Truong in the No. 2 spot.

Sophomore Melanie Urvoy and freshman Laura Fernandez nearly won the doubles point for the Lady Techsters at the No. 3 position but fell 8-6 to Isadora Busch and Willett.

LA Tech continues their home stand Saturday at 12 p.m. against Southern Miss at the Lady Techster Tennis Complex.
