LA Tech Doubles Mixer Get Acrobat Reader

RUSTON - The Louisiana Tech tennis team notched its third straight victory with an overpowering 7-0 win against Grambling State on Wednesday evening at the Louisiana Tech Tennis Complex.

LA Tech (4-3) posted its first shutout win of the season and its second straight win over a SWAC opponent.

"I give the credit to the players that kept their focus and continued to do what is expected of the despite not feeling much pressure during the match," said head coach Freddy Gomez.

At the top two singles spots, the Lady Techsters did not surrender a single game as freshmen Alexandra Starkova (No. 1) and Joanna Nalborska (No. 2) each won 6-0, 6-0.

The remaining four singles spots only allowed one game with Melanie Urvoy (No. 3), Taly Merker (No. 4) and Alena Erofeyeva (No. 5) each cruising to a 6-0, 6-1 victory. Sophie Heldoorn took a 6-1, 6-0 win at the No. 6 position.

LA Tech controlled the doubles matches as well with the No. 1 pair of Vivian ten Dolle and Manoela Chiacchio taking down Tabitha Nankya and Oluwatomisin Kassim 8-2 for the clinching point.

The No. 2 combo of Starkova and Nalborska cruised to an 8-0 win over Gina Stephenson and Alicia Shaw to remain undefeated on the season.

Next up for the Lady Techsters is another rescheduled match set for tomorrow, March 14 on the road versus Northwestern State at 2 p.m. at the Jack Fisher Complex.

"This [win] will hopefully strengthen us for tomorrow's match versus Northwestern State, who is a strong team," said Gomez. "We will have to play with the same focus tomorrow as we did today. I'm sure it will be a good challenge, and we are looking forward to it."

The Lady Demons are 5-4 on the season and are coming off a tough 4-3 loss to then No. 60 ranked Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.

On Friday, LA Tech will return home to host a spring blast mixer at 4:30 p.m. at the Louisiana Tech Tennis Complex.

The Ruston tennis community is encouraged to come out to play doubles with the LA Tech tennis team as well as enjoy drinks, snacks and music. All levels of tennis are welcome to come to the free event.

"I think this will be a great event between Louisiana Tech Tennis and the Ruston tennis community," said Gomez. "Our fans are fantastic and there is a lot of people looking to get to know more about our players and share a good time on the court with them. This will also serve to introduce our newest additions, Nalborska and Starkova. We hope to get a good crowd of various ages and levels, some juniors, Tech students and adults. The good thing is that we have plenty of courts, players and fun to share with everyone."
