LAFAYETTE, La. - The Louisiana Tech tennis team got back in the winning column on Saturday afternoon as they defeated in-state rival UL-Lafayette, 5-2, at the Ragin' Cajuns Courts.
LA Tech (12-2) continued its impressive spring run, with 11 of the team wins coming on the road.
After losing three of the past four doubles points, the Lady Techsters set the tone early by grabbing wins at No. 2 and No. 3 to open the match with a 1-0 advantage.
"We got the ball rolling with the doubles point," said head coach Chad Camper. "We had a few tough matches in singles, but it was another solid team performance, one that was needed going into tomorrow's match versus Houston."
Melanie Urvoy was part of one of the doubles wins and quickly gave LA Tech the 2-0 lead with a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 4 singles over Julie Cremers.
At No. 5, Manoela Chiacchio extended her 10-match winning streak with another straight sets win, 6-3, 6-4.
The match was then clinched at the top where Alexandra Starkova defeated Nelo Phiri, 6-3, 7-6.
UL-Lafayette (5-11) was able to pick up two points at No. 2 and No. 3 by Nicole Breaux and Melissa Burckhartt, respectively.
