RUSTON - It was a dominant performance for Louisiana Tech on a gorgeous Sunday evening as the Lady Techsters shutout regional rival Northwestern State, 7-0, at the LA Tech Tennis Complex.
LA Tech (14-4) extended its home winning streak to eight and ended NSU's (13-4) 11-match winning streak.
"We really came out on fire and never let up," said head coach Chad Camper. "The women were excited for a good home match. The crowd got loud and we played better, volleying very well in singles and doubles.
"Northwestern State is a tough team having a great season so it feels great to walk out with a shutout."
Doubles has been a big focal point for the Lady Techsters this season and it seemed to come together for them today.
All three courts were neck-and-neck, but Melanie Urvoy and Alexandra Starkova were able to notch the 8-5 victory at No. 2. Following suit was the duo of Taly Merker and Manoela Chiacchio at No. 3 who also delivered an 8-5 win to pick up the doubles point.
Urvoy was quick to give LA Tech a 2-0 advantage as she continued her great senior campaign with a decisive 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 5.
Starkova had an equally impressive performance from the No. 1 spot, winning in straight sets 6-3, 6-2.
Clinching the victory for the Techsters was Chiacchio at No. 6 with a 6-1, 6-4 victory.
She was down 5-4 in the second set but rallied for three straight games to take it.
Jazmin Britos also registered a straight sets win from the No. 3 spot. The freshman was up a set but down 5-4 in the second before rallying to win three straight games to take it 6-3, 7-5.
The two marathon matches of the day were at court 2 and 4. Both went into a super tiebreaker in the third set and both were pulled out by LA Tech - Nalborska won 11-9 and Sramkova won 10-5.
Next up for LA Tech is a matchup versus 45th ranked Arkansas in Fayetteville. First serve is set for 10 a.m.
