RUSTON - The Louisiana Tech tennis team concluded its conference home swing with an impressive 4-0 shutout of UTSA on Easter Sunday at the LA Tech Tennis Complex.
The Lady Techsters (10-4, 5-1 WAC) were able to sneak in the morning match with the Roadrunners (5-8, 0-3 WAC) just before the thunderstorms arrived in Ruston.
"Today, the team came out with such a high level of focus," said head coach Freddy Gomez. "I'm very proud of all the players who are truly embracing each other and the team. This shows us that we can compete against anyone in our league. It was unfortunate that we did not get to finish all the matches, but I'm very excited and proud of our performance today."
Singles was started first rather than the usual doubles with the threat of weather on the way.
Freshman Joanna Nalborska continued her winning tear as she delivered the team's first point with a convincing 6-0, 6-2 victory at the No. 1 spot, her first match of the season at this position.
Fellow freshman Alexandra Starkova followed suit as she defeated Isabelle Jonsson 6-4, 6-2 at the No. 2 spot.
The matches continued to finish in order as senior Vivian ten Dolle took down UTSA's Alena Shichkova 6-1, 6-2 at No. 3.
With dark clouds looming, freshman Taly Merker clinched the match with a 6-0, 6-4 victory at the No. 5 position just minutes before the rain and lightning came.
LA Tech was up a set in the remaining two matches on the court, but both were stopped.
Next up for the Techsters is a two-match road swing in San Antonio, Texas where they will face WAC foes UT Arlington and Idaho starting on Saturday, April 6 at 4 p.m. versus the Mavericks.
