VICKSBURG, Miss. – The Louisiana Tech tennis team came away with a 5-2 win over Alcorn State Thursday night at the ASU Tennis Courts. With the victory, the Lady Techsters improve to 12-5 while the Lady Braves drop to 9-7. The 12 wins for LA Tech is the most by the program since 1996. Senior Elne Barnard and Anna Zurek started the doubles portion of the doubles competition with an 8-4 win over Viktoriya Kozachuk and Kersten Vanem at the No. 1 position. Alcorn State’s Keti MeDuke and Daria Rudd defeated senior Maartje de Wit and junior Vivian ten Dolle 8-3 at No. 2 to tie the doubles matches. Junior Alena Erofeyeva and freshman Laura Fernandez gave the Lady Techsters the doubles point by downing Kali Sandoval and Merilin Tipp 8-4 at the No. 3 spot. Erofeyeva kicked off singles action with a quick victory (6-0, 6-2) over Kozachuk at No. 4 to improve to 22-8 on the year and 15-2 in duals. At No. 3, Barnard defeated Merilin (6-2, 6-4) and de Wit won (6-4, 6-2) against Sandoval to clinch the match victory for Tech. The final point for the Lady Techsters came at the No. 5 flight as Zurek won in three-sets over Rudd (6-7, 7-6, 10-7).
Alcorn State did win two matches at the No. 1 and 2 positions in two-sets apiece. Louisiana Tech returns to action April 13 as they host Houston at 5 p.m. at the Lady Techster Tennis Complex.
