SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The Louisiana Tech tennis team played under the lights on Saturday night and came away with a 4-1 victory over WAC foe UT Arlington at the neutral site of the UTSA Tennis Center.
With the win, LA Tech (11-4, 6-1 WAC) distanced itself a little more from UTA (5-10, 4-3 WAC) who was looking to gain ground in the conference standings.
The doubles point came down to a nail biter at the No. 2 position where the freshman tandem of Joanna Nalborska and Alexandra Starkova edged Giada D'ortona and Verena Scott 9-7, giving the Lady Techsters the 1-0 match lead.
Starkova wasted no time in singles, cruising to a 6-0, 6-3 victory at the No. 2 spot.
Vivian ten Dolle was equally as impressive with a 6-1, 6-3 win from the No. 3 position, giving the Lady Techsters a 3-0 edge in the match.
The Lady Mavericks got their first point of the night at No. 4 as Thoms defeated Urvoy 6-0, 6-2.
However, in just her second match of the season at No. 1, Nalborska clinched the team's 10th win in their last 11 games with a 6-3, 7-6 (7-1) triumph.
LA Tech and UTA each led in one match that remained in progress prior to being stopped.
UT Arlington came in having won four of its last five matches, all coming against conference opponents.
The Techsters have a quick turnaround as they return to the courts tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. to face the Idaho Vandals.
