SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The Louisiana Tech tennis team dropped the doubles point against Idaho but responded by winning four singles matches in straight sets to defeat the Vandals, 4-1 in a Sunday morning contest at the neutral site of the UTSA Tennis Center.
LA Tech (12-4, 7-1 WAC) concluded its conference portion of the regular season schedule by sweeping the weekend to boost its notable run of 11 wins in the last 12 matches.
The Lady Techsters lost the doubles point for only the fifth time this season with the team having gone winless in the previous four matches before being victorious in today's contest.
Freshman Manoela Chiacchio was the first Techster to provide a point for the team with a defeat of Alejandra Lozano 6-0, 6-2 from the No. 6 position, pushing her singles winning streak to a team-high seven games.
Senior Vivian ten Dolle continued her superb tennis of late by notching a 6-3, 6-0 win over Idaho's Constance Alexander at the No. 3 spot. Junior Melanie Urvoy followed by registering a 6-3, 6-3 victory against the Vandal's Belen Barcenilla at No. 4.
The clincher soon came from Starkova as she pulled away from Idaho's Aludena Sanz 6-4, 6-1 from the No. 2 spot.
LA Tech led on the No. 1 and No. 5 courts before play was stopped.
The Techsters have only one weekend of tennis remaining before the WAC Tournament. The first match is a road contest at Southern Miss on Saturday, April 13th followed by Senior Day at home on Sunday, April 14th versus Alcorn State.
