DALLAS - The regular season came to a close on a windy Saturday afternoon for the Louisiana Tech tennis team in a 5-2 loss to SMU at the Northwood Country Club.
LA Tech (14-6) will now set its sights on the Conference USA Tournament which begins on Wednesday, April 16 hosted by Old Dominion in Norfolk, Va.
"We had a tough day today," said head coach Chad Camper. "The windy conditions hurt us at times, but we kept fighting. We took a few positive things from the match and we look forward to preparing for the conference tournament."
SMU (10-11) was able to notch its fourth straight win and ninth in the last 12 matches. The Mustangs got things started by sweeping all three doubles matches to go up 1-0.
The opposition made it 2-0 after Hristina Dishkova defeated Joanna Nalborska 6-1, 6-3 at the No. 2 spot.
The Lady Techsters got on the scoreboard next as Alexandra Starkova overpowered Dasha Sharapova 6-3, 6-3 at No. 1.
The team match was clinched soon thereafter with wins at No. 3 and No. 5 for the Mustangs.
LA Tech was able to add another win in the final match on the courts with Taly Merker winning in straight sets, 6-4, 7-6 (1) at No. 6.
