HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Louisiana Tech tennis team extended its winning streak to seven matches on Saturday evening with a shut out of Southern Miss, 7-0, at the USM Tennis Courts.
Head coach Freddy Gomez has his LA Tech (13-4, 7-1 WAC) squad playing its best tennis of the season as they have now blanked three of their last six opponents.
On the flipside, Southern Miss (0-20, 0-4 CUSA) was shut out for the fifth straight match.
USM got its lone win of the day from Kate Lanier and Mackenzie Oskin as they defeated LA Tech's Alena Erofeyeva and Sophie Heldoorn, 8-2 at the No. 2 spot. However, the doubles point went to the Lady Techsters as the Golden Eagles forfeited the match at No. 3.
In singles, senior Vivian ten Dolle recorded a perfect 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 3 singles.
Freshman Manoela Chiacchio picked up her first win of the season at the No. 5 position with a convincing 6-1, 6-0 win to improve her singles streak to eight games.
Nalborska has solidified her place at No. 1 singles for the Techsters as she also extended her streak to eight games with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Coats.
Starkova and fellow freshman Taly Merker both cruised to straight set wins as well.
LA Tech will conclude the regular season tomorrow as they take on Alcorn State at 2 p.m. at the Louisiana Tech Tennis Complex.
After the completion of doubles play against the Lady Braves, the team will honor its two seniors on Senior Day, ten Dolle and Erofeyeva.
Free hot dogs and beverages will be served while supplies last, and the Techster team will offer a free Junior Clinic (ages 9-16) open to players of all levels upon the completion of their match.
