WACO, Texas – Paulina Cota registered a straight-sets win on court six, but that was the only point the Louisiana Tech women’s tennis could register on Friday as they fell 5-1 to No. 25 Baylor inside the Hawkins Indoor Tennis Center. Rain forced the match indoors where LA Tech (9-10) got off to an early lead in doubles on courts two and three. Baylor (13-11) then took control, winning the doubles point and getting singles points on courts one, two, four and five. Nadja Manjon and Angela Lorenzo were up 2-1 at the No. 2 spot on the 80th-ranked doubles team of Jessica Hinojosa and Kris Sorokolet, but the Bears ended up winning the next five games to take the match and clinch the point after a victory at the No. 1 position as well. Forced to be stopped was court three where Sonia Chen and Claudia Oravcova, who are 9-2 on the spring, were up 5-4 on Angie Shakhraichuk and Dominika Sujova. Chen did not play singles which forced the lineup to shift up from the No. 2 position on down (Manjon stayed on court one for the fifth straight match). The Bears got straight-set victories on courts two and four to go up 3-0 in the match and then clinched things with a win on court five. Electing to play out courts one and six, Cota was the next match to finish as the freshman registered her fourth victory of the dual season by outlasting Katelyn Parker by a final score of 7-5, 6-0. LA Tech will now make the drive to Houston where they will take on No. 43-ranked Rice on Saturday. First serve is set for 11 a.m. at the George R. Brown Tennis Center.
