BATTON ROUGE, La. - Louisiana Tech's tennis team defeated Southern 6-1 Saturday afternoon at the Southern University Tennis Courts as the Lady Techsters won their seventh road match of the season.
Tech is now 13-6 overall while the Jaguars drop to 8-9.
With Southern only fielding five players, the Lady Techsters needed to win just one of the two doubles matches to clinch the point which seniors Elne Barnard and Anna Zurek easily accomplished against Camara Davis and Morgan Taylor 8-1 at the No. 1 position. Senior Maartje de Wit and junior Vivian ten Dolle completed the sweep with an 8-2 victory at the No. 2 flight over Lois Alexis and Demetria Woods.
After the doubles points, LA Tech led the Jaguars 2-0 as sophomore Melanie Urvoy won by default at the No. 6 position. Freshman Laura Fernandez took care of Woods in two-sets (6-4, 6-1) at No.1 while ten Dolle downed Moore (6-2, 6-1) at No. 2 as the Lady Techsters clinched the match.
Barnard and junior Alena Erofeyeva won both of their matches in two-sets by the score of 6-0, 6-4 at the No. 3 and 4 spots, respectively.
Southern won their only match at the No. 5 flight as Taylor defeated Zurek in two-sets (6-0, 6-4).
