LA Tech Tennis Announces 2018 Spring Schedule

Jan. 4, 2018

RUSTON – Louisiana Tech women’s tennis head coach Amanda Stone announced on Thursday the 2018 spring schedule which consists of 21 head-to-head duals plus two invitational tournaments.

The season officially gets underway on Jan. 12 as LA Travel travels to Pensacola, Florida to participate in the Spring Kickoff Invite co-hosted by Central Arkansas and West Florida. The following weekend, the Lady Techsters will take part in the Hurricane Invite hosted by Tulsa.

LA Tech will face five Conference USA opponents this spring, starting with the first dual on Jan. 27 at North Texas. They will also take on Florida Atlantic, UTEP, UTSA and Rice.

“There are a lot of high-level teams we face this year,” Stone said. “As we continue to grow the program, it is important that we stay engaged and challenged. We are traveling further and meeting more teams to play C-USA matches this year as well. This should help us in knowing what we will face at the conference tournament in April.”

After head to south Louisiana to go up against McNeese State and Louisiana-Lafayette on Feb. 3 and 4, respectively, the Lady Techsters return to Ruston for its first home match of the season versus Northwestern State on Feb. 6. It is the first of eight home duals this spring.

“We have doubled the amount of home matches this year which I am really happy about,” Stone added. “We are really working hard to develop relationships with the community and our fans and the team is really excited to get more opportunities to play for them.

“Overall I think we have a great opportunity to get better this year. We want to build confidence and momentum consistently. We are very young, but focused. It should be a fun team to follow.”

The other opponents to be played at the LA Tech Tennis Complex include Texas State, Grambling State, Incarnate Word, Henderson State, ULM, Arkansas State and Tyler Junior College.

The regular season closes in the Lone Star State with a matchup against nationally-ranked Baylor in Waco on April 13 and in Houston versus league foe Rice on April 14.

The C-USA Tournament begins on April 19 and will be hosted by Old Dominion in Norfolk, Virginia.
