RUSTON - The Louisiana Tech tennis team serves up the start of spring season this weekend in the Sunshine State as they travel to take on Florida Gulf Coast on Friday at 1:30 and Conference USA foe Florida Atlantic on Saturday at 10 a.m.
Friday's much-anticipated season opener for new head coach Chad Camper and the seven-person squad will be played at the FGCU Tennis Complex.
"Practice has been going great," said Camper. "It took a little time for the team to get used to my system of coaching, but they have really bought in and are working hard for this weekend. There is a real spirit here and they are ready to get the season play started."
The team is coming off an impressive fall season where it competed in four regional tournaments and compiled 72 total wins along with six main draw flight wins in singles and three in doubles.
Combining main draw and consolation, the Lady Techsters had 20 flight finals appearances.
Sophomore Joanna Nalborska, currently ranked 15th in the ITA Division I Southern Region rankings, will anchor the team.
The Warsaw, Poland native was named first team all-conference in singles and doubles last spring as well earning Conference Freshman of the Year.
FGCU is also guided by a first year head coach in Courtney Vernon and the Eagles have already notched a 6-1 win over Big 12 member Iowa State.
The matchup against C-USA rival Florida Atlantic will be the dual opener for the Owls.
"The team is very excited for our first two matches," said Camper. "Both of these programs are very solid teams. We are trying to get better each day with maximum effort."
