The Louisiana Tech Lady Techster tennis was swept in its season opener against Lamar in Prairie View, Texas, on Saturday. The Techsters fell in straight sets in each match and were competitive in doubles action.

Rocio Juarez fell in the No. 1 singles match to Lamar's Mariaryeni Gutierrez 6-2, 6-0. Gutierrez is ranked No. 15 in the region by the ITA. Alexandra Gaspar lost 6-1, 6-4 to Kaltrina Harbuzi. Ashley Wedderburn fell 6-1, 6-1 to Manijee Ashrafi in the No. 3 singles match. At No. 4, Lamar's Maria Gutierrez defeated Ada Makowska 6-3, 6-1, and in the No. 5 match Salina Aranda defeated Tech's Mallory Smith 6-1, 6-0.

In doubles action, the team of Andrea Martinez and Mariaryeni Gutierrez defeated Juarez and Makowska 8-2. In the No. 2 match, Maria Guitierrez and Ashrafi bested Gaspar and Wedderburn 8-4.

Tech will take on Prairie View A&M at 9 a.m. Sunday to complete the Techsters' action for the weekend.
