LA Tech Faces North Texas in First Dual Match
Jan. 26, 2018
RUSTON – After playing in two hidden dual tournaments, the Louisiana Tech women’s tennis team will take part in its first dual match of the spring season when they travel to face Conference USA foe North Texas on Saturday at noon at the Waranch Tennis Complex.
This will be the first of 21 dual matches over the next three months for LA Tech (0-0) who most recently took part in the Hurricane Invite in Tulsa, Oklahoma where they played Oral Roberts, Tulsa and Wyoming.
The returners that will be in the lineup on Saturday include Sonia Chen and Nadja Manjon. The other four are freshmen – Paulina Cota, Karla De La Luz Montalvo, Claudia Oravcova and Andrea Perez-Lopez – and will be playing in their first collegiate dual match.
It is a tough league opponent right out of the gates in North Texas (1-1) who has already defeated the reigning American Athletic Conference champion South Florida by a final score of 4-3 this spring.
The Mean Green are led by junior Maria Kononova who plays at the top of the lineup and is currently ranked 42nd in the country in singles and is part of the 36th-ranked doubles team in the nation with junior Tamuna Kutubidze.
This will be the first time LA Tech has faced North Texas on the courts since 2016 when the Lady Techsters fell, 4-1, to the Mean Green.
