LA Tech Faces Sam Houston State on the Road
Feb. 8, 2018
RUSTON – After having a couple of matches postponed due to rain, the Louisiana Tech women’s tennis team will gladly welcome some sunshine in their next match against Sam Houston State on Friday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. at the McAdams Tennis Center.
Recent scheduled matches against McNeese State and Northwestern State were pushed back, but LA Tech (1-1) was able to squeeze in one game this past week which came against Louisiana-Lafayette.
It proved to be a huge confidence builder for the Lady Techsters as they went on the road and handed the Ragin’ Cajuns their first loss of the season.
They had to come from behind to do so as well. Down 2-0, the team roared back to ultimately win the match 4-3 with freshman Karla De La Luz Montalvo clinching it on court five with a gutsy 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 victory.
Friday may be a road game, but LA Tech already has experience playing at the home courts of Sam Houston State (2-2). The squad participated in the Bearkat Invitational during the fall season, going a combined 14-7 in singles action and 5-4 in doubles.
The Bearkats have posted victories over Prairie View A&M and UTSA while suffering losses to nationally-ranked Texas A&M and Houston.
Sam Houston is another very experienced team just like LA Tech’s previous opponent ULL was. They have four seniors on their roster, anchored at the No.1 position in singles by Fabienne Gettwart.
The two teams have met 19 with LA Tech holding a slim 10-9 advantage in the series. LA Tech has prevailed in the last two meetings, including last year’s 6-1 victory at home.
