RUSTON - The Louisiana Tech tennis team returns to the courts on Sunday as they travel to Natchitoches, La. to take on Northwestern State at 2 p.m. at the Jack Fisher Tennis Complex.

It is the first road match of the spring season for head coach Freddy Gomez and Co. as the Lady Techsters look to rebound from a 4-2 loss to Southeastern Louisiana last weekend.

"I feel like we are still working our way to get to our peak level," said Gomez. "It is good that in the first two matches our girls have showed a lot of enthusiasm. I think if we just keep learning every week about each other, we will develop good team chemistry."

LA Tech (1-1) has gotten strong support from the No. 1 spot with senior Vivian ten Dolle as she is a perfect 2-0 in singles and doubles thus far.

The doubles point has proven crucial in each of their first two matches. Despite it being so early in the season, Gomez has a good sense of who the doubles teams are.

"We have Manoela Chiacchio and Vivian ten Dolle playing pretty good at No. 1 and then Taly Merker and Melanie Urvoy, they have good chemistry also at No. 2," said Gomez. "We will keep improving in dobules, just to get stronger and more comfortable."

Northwestern State (1-1) opened their spring season with a heartbreaking 4-3 loss to No. 45 ranked LSU.

The Lady Demons came back the following weekend to notch their first dual match win, a 6-1 defeat of Abilene Christian. They will take on Southern Miss today before battling the Lady Techsters tomorrow.

The in-state schools last played each other two seasons ago with NSU coming out on top 6-1. Ten Dolle had the lone point that day for the Techsters from the No. 2 singles position.

"In singles, it's how each one of them understands what their games really are," said Gomez. "How they can even improve it and what they can get better at. I always keep telling them to keep improving their strength, maximize their strength. It's more important that they focus on their best shot. Each one of them has a very specific game."
