@LATechTEN Heads to Sunshine State to Face FAU, Stetson

March 2, 2018

RUSTON – The Louisiana Tech women’s tennis team will make its longest trip of the regular season as they head to the Sunshine State to take on conference foe Florida Atlantic on Saturday at 9 a.m. CT at the FAU Tennis Complex.

On the following Monday, LA Tech (2-3) will stay in the state of Florida to go up against Stetson at 9 a.m. CT at the Mandy Stoll Tennis Center.

It will be almost two weeks since the Lady Techsters were on the courts. The last time was in their home opener where they registered a convincing 4-1 victory over Texas State, thanks to the top four spots in the singles lineup producing wins.

The Louisiana Tech tennis team started and finished strong on Saturday morning as the Lady Techsters swept Conference USA foe Florida Atlantic, 7-0.

Arguably the most impressive win that day came from freshman Andrea Perez-Lopez who registered her first career dual victory with a solid 6-3, 6-2 win at the No. 1 position.

Continuing to pace the team in singles wins are sophomore Nadja Manjon and freshman Karla De La Luz Montalvo who each have four apiece. Both players recorded victories against the Bobcats as well.

FAU (4-4) is the second of five league opponents that LA Tech will take on during the spring season. The Owls are coming off a 4-1 win at North Florida and will take on Miami on Friday before facing the Lady Techsters on Saturday.

They are anchored by Oklahoma State transfer Aliona Bolsova who is a perfect 7-0 in singles this season and is currently ranked as the No. 3 player in the country in the Oracle/ITA Division I Women’s National Singles rankings.

In the fall, she reached the finals of the Riviera/ITA Women’s All-American Championships. In the spring, she has yet to drop a single set in her seven dual wins.

LA Tech has faced Florida Atlantic only one time before on the courts. That time came in 2014 when the Lady Techsters shutout the Owls, 7-0, in Boca Raton.

Monday’s opponent, Stetson (6-2), recently defeated Nova Southeastern 7-0 and will take on Mercer on Sunday before battling the Lady Techsters.

The Hatters are led by senior Arijana Korac who is 4-2, playing primarily at the No. 1 singles position. She was a First Team All-Atlantic Sun selection a season ago.

It will mark the first ever meeting between LA Tech and Stetson on the courts.
