March 20, 2017
RUSTON – The Louisiana Tech women’s tennis team will be going for win No. 10 on the spring dual season on Tuesday afternoon when they travel to take on Alcorn State with first serve set for 2 p.m.
The match will be played in Vicksburg, Mississippi at the Halls Ferry Road Tennis Courts.
LA Tech (9-7) will also be going for their third straight win after coming off back-to-back overpowering victories over Grambling State and Arkansas State.
The magic number of 10 also relates to three players – senior Jazmin Britos, freshman Nadja Manjon and junior Alba Escalona Perny. Each will be going for singles win No. 10 on Tuesday.
It would be the sixth time in the last seven seasons that the Lady Techsters reach double-digit wins in the dual season.
Alcorn State (7-12), winners of the 2016 SWAC Tournament title, has won three of its last four matches with victories over conference foes Grambling State, Arkansas-Pine Bluff and Prairie View A&M.
Anastasia Vaganova leads the team with nine singles wins, primarily from the No. 5 position. The freshman has won six straight matches.
Sophomores Bianca Birkenstock and Marlene Maier are not far behind with seven singles wins. Birkenstock plays primarily at the top of the lineup at No. 1 and No. 2 while Maier has seen all of her action at No. 5 and No. 6.
LA Tech and Alcorn State faced off last season in Ruston. The Lady Techsters shutout the Lady Braves, 5-0.
