RUSTON, La. ? Louisiana Tech fell to .500 on the season as the Tennis Techsters dropped a 4-3 home match to Louisiana-Monroe on Tuesday.
Tech is now 8-8 while ULM is 8-5.
Louisiana Tech went short-handed with only five players, having to give up one doubles match and one singles point.
Doubles play proved to be the difference as ULM?s Nataliya Ostrovska and Daliny Sithimorada combined for an 8-4 No. 1 win over Tech?s Holly Ready and Saharai Uriarte to secure the doubles point even though Techsters Anabella Duque and Avril Martinez teamed for a 8-4 No. 2 win over Noelia Leon and Diana Espinal.
Already down 2-0 heading into singles action, Tech received wins from Ready at the No. 3 spot, Duque at No. 4 and Martinez at No. 5 but couldn?t make up those extra points as ULM escaped with the win.
?It?s tough to play that close and lose,? Tech coach Terrence De Jongh said. ?It?s almost easier when the other team beats you by a big margin. But we knew what we were up against and didn?t quite do enough to get the win. We just have to try to learn from this one and move on.?
Tech next plays host to the University of New Orleans in a 10 a.m. match on Saturday.
