RUSTON, La. - Louisiana Tech's tennis team plays two matches this weekend as they host Houston at 5 p.m. Friday at the Lady Techster Tennis Complex in the final home contest of the season. The Lady Techsters will then travel to face Southern Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. at the Southern University Tennis Courts.
LA Tech has a 12-5 record and recorded back-to-back 10-plus win seasons for the first time since the program had six-straight campaigns from 1981-86.
Junior Alena Erofeyeva has compiled a 22-8 singles mark and is 15-2 in dual contests. Both victory totals are the most by a player since head coach Quintin Yray took over the program in September 2006.
The team of senior Maartje de Wit and ten Dolle are 11-3 in duals while Barnard and Zurek are 10-7.
Houston comes to town with an 11-7 record after defeating Prairie View A&M (7-0) Wednesday night on the road. The Cougars are 3-2 away from home with wins their other two victories coming against Southeastern Louisiana (7-0) and Texas State (4-3).
Giorgia Pozzan (13), Maja Kazimieruk (12), Liselot Koenen (11) and Celia Fraser (10) have all won double-figure single matches. Laura King and Koenen are 9-2 together as a duo.
Southern is 9-8 and finished second in the Southwestern Athletic Conference behind Alcorn State, who Tech defeated 5-2 in their last match.
