RUSTON - Louisiana Tech will hope to bring out its best tennis of the season this week as the Lady Techsters prep for their second round match on Thursday at 1 p.m. CT in the Conference USA Tournament.
LA Tech (14-6) enters as the No. 5 seed and received a first round bye. They will play the winner of No. 13 UTEP and No. 12 UAB at the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center in Norfolk, Va.
The Lady Techsters will be led by Alexandra Starkova at the top spot in singles. The sophomore has amassed a 13-6 record during the spring season and has picked up victories over North Texas and SMU, both of whom have been ranked nationally this season.
On the opposite end though, it has been the back end of singles that has been the catalyst for Tech starting with Manoela Chiacchio.
The sophomore has a 13-4 record with six wins coming at the five position and six coming at the six position.
Doubles has been more of a work in progress, but has gradually gotten better as the season has progressed in finding the right mix.
If facing UTEP, it will be the first meeting between the two schools this season. On the other hand, the Techsters have already faced UAB this season and came out on top, 5-2, in Birmingham.
A victory would put LA Tech in the quarterfinals versus No. 4 seed Marshall on Friday at 1 p.m. CT.
