RUSTON, La. - After winning the most matches since 1994, the Louisiana Tech tennis team enters the Western Athletic Conference Tournament as the No. 8 seed and will face No. 1 seed and No. 48 nationally ranked Fresno State Thursday morning at 10 a.m. CT in Las Cruces, N.M. at the NMSU Tennis Center.
The Lady Techsters enter the tournament with a 14-7 record and 0-3 in conference play.
This will be the second straight year that LA Tech will face the Bulldogs in the opening round of the WAC Tournament with Tech falling 4-0 in 2011.
Junior Alena Erofeyeva enters the tournament on a five match winning streak and is 26-8 overall in singles. In dual competitions she is 19-2 including 10-2 at No. 4. Her 19 wins this spring are the second most in school history in a season, one behind Marla Watson's record of 20 victories set in 1982.
Senior Elne Barnard is 16-5 in singles with a 14-5 mark at No. 3. Her 16 wins are tied for sixth most in Tech history for a season.
Both seniors Maartje de Wit and Anna Zurek have won 13 total singles contests this year. Of Zurek's win total, 10 have come in dual competitions with seven victories at the No. 5 position while de Wit has six wins in the spring.
Junior Vivian ten Dolle and freshman Laura Fernandez have won 12 and 10 total singles matches this year, respectively. Ten Dolle has played primarily at No. 2 where she is 9-8. Seven of Fernandez's wins have come in the spring with all of the wins being at No. 1.
Fresno State is 13-8 overall and 3-0 in the WAC and have won nine of the past 10 WAC championships.
