RUSTON - Freshman Alexandra Starkovawas named to the WAC All-Tournament Team for singles after leading Louisiana Tech to the conference semifinals last week at the Gates Tennis Center in Denver, Colo.
The native of Madrid, Spain was dominant at the No. 2 position, delivering straight set victories versus Texas State in the quarterfinals and No. 66 nationally-ranked San Jose State in the semis.
Starkova overpowered the Bobcats' Melissa Hadad 6-1, 6-3 as the Lady Techsters advanced to the next round with a 4-0 shutout.
She continued her winning fashion the following day with a convincing 6-2, 6-2 defeat of the Spartans' Sabastiani Leon Chao. Earlier this season, Starkova lost in a three-set marathon to Leon Chao.
The victory tied the team match up at two all, but SJSU was able to pull out a 4-2 win en route to being the 2013 WAC Tournament Champions.
Starkova finished the season on a seven-match winning streak to improve her overall record to 13-2.
