BATON ROUGE, La. -- The Louisiana Tech freshman tandem of Joanna Nalborska and Alexandra Starkova were honored again for their successful seasons as both were named to the second team All-Louisiana by the voters in the Louisiana Sports Writers Association.
Nalborska finished the year with an 11-2 record in dual singles, playing primarily at the No. 2 and No. 3 spots before settling into the No. 1 position by the end of the season.
The Warsaw, Poland native produced a nine-match winning streak which included a perfect 4-0 mark in a four-match conference weekend that saw her drop zero sets.
She went on to be named WAC Player of the Week for her efforts and also became the first Lady Techster in program history to be named conference Freshman of the Year.
Starkova was equally as impressive in singles, posting a 13-2 record in duals.
The Madrid, Spain native went 3-2 at No. 1 before finding a home at No. 2 where she went a perfect 10-0.
Her best tennis came at the end of the year when she anchored LA Tech to a first round shutout of Texas State and a near upset of the eventual champion San Jose State on her way to being named to the WAC All-Tournament team.
The duo joined forces in doubles to go undefeated with a 13-0 mark, primarily at No. 2, to record the best single season doubles record in program history.
Fourteen total netters were included on the All-LSWA team with LA Tech, Northwestern State, Southeastern Louisiana and Tulane each leading the way with two selections.
