Cota signs NLI
May 30, 2017

RUSTON – Louisiana Tech women’s tennis head coach Amanda Stone announced on Tuesday the signing of two international players to the 2017 recruiting class.

Stone looks to build upon her first year at the helm with the addition of Paulina Cota from Mexico City, Mexico and Claudia Oravcova from Piestany, Slovakia.

“For this first recruiting class, I’ve really taken the time to search for players that are athletic and love to complete,” Stone said. “Paulina and Claudia really embody both and have proven success in their junior careers.”

Cota has a career-high ITF ranking of 570 and recently claimed the championship of the Singles National G2, the U21 singles Copa Centenario and the U21 singles and doubles National Copa Asuncion.

“I knew right away Paulina was the kind of athlete we needed in our program,” Stone said. She’s fiery and competitive and we just had a very good initial connection. She has big tennis goals and is a really motivated player. She’s going to be a key piece in building the culture and foundation going forward.”

In the U16 category, she was the singles and doubles Copa France champion, the singles and doubles National Tournament champion and a singles and doubles regional finalist. She also was a champion of the U16 singles National G2.

Most recently, Oravcova placed third at the U18 Slovak Championship. She has won several Slovak Class A and B tournaments and had a second-place finish in the U16 Slovak Championship which qualified her for a spot on the Slovak national team.

“Claudia is a player that has competed at a really high level and I’m excited to see how that translates to her college career,” Stone said. “She’s athletic, has a ton of upside and is buying into the direction the program is going. I think she can make an immediate impact here at LA Tech.”

Oravcova has also competed in the Slovak Tennis Association Extraliga League and in the WTB Bezirk D German League for Reutlingen and Leinfelden.
