RUSTON, La. - After helping the Louisiana Tech tennis team complete their most successful season in 18 years, senior Elne Barnard and junior Alena Erofeyeva were both named to the Louisiana Sports Writers Association all-state teams as voted by a panel of media and sports publicists from around the state.
Erofeyeva earned first team all-state honors while Barnard was a second team selection. The two all-state team selections are the most for the program in over a decade.
A native of Yekaterinburg, Russia, Erofeyeva finished with an overall singles record of 26-8 including 19-2 in duals and 2-1 against Western Athletic Conference opponents. Her 19 victories in the spring were the second most in school history and one away from tying the program record set in 1982. She went 10-2 at the No. 4 position and undefeated at No. 5 (6-0) and 6 (3-0).
Barnard was 16-5 on the year in singles with all of her matches coming during the dual portion of the schedule. The Port Elizabeth, South Africa native competed primarily as the No. 3 position as she recorded a 14-5 mark. This is the second career LSWA honor for Barnard as she was named the Newcomer of the Year in 2011.
Northwestern State placed a total of four players to the first and second teams while Tulane had three first team selections and also claimed the Player of the Year (Mariam Kurdadze) and Coach of the Year (Terri Sisk) awards. Nicholls State's Parija Maloo picked up Newcomer of the Year while Tatiana Lorina of the Lady Demons was the Freshman of the Year.
