Stone Signs Andrea Perez-Lopez, Completes 2017 Recruiting Class

Aug. 16, 2017

RUSTON – Louisiana Tech women’s tennis head coach Amanda Stone finalized her first recruiting class on Tuesday, announcing the addition of Andrea Perez-Lopez.

Perez-Lopez hails from Oaxaca, Mexico, joining three other Lady Techster signees Karla De La Luz Montalvo, Paulina Cota and Claudia Oravcova.

“Andrea really demonstrates the right personality and attitude we want to foster in our program,” Stone said. “She will play a big role in our chemistry and overall team atmosphere.

“On the court, we are going to count on her to provide depth and really help us in doubles. She comes from a great tennis background and family. She knows the game and understands what it takes to win at the college level.”

Perez-Lopez has won numerous tournaments in her home country including the San Luis Potosi open, the Queretaro Open (three times), the Guadalajara Open, the Guanajuato Open (two times) and the Ciudad de Mexico Open on the Nationals Grade 1 level.

She has also won the Oaxaca Open (three times), the Puebla Open and the Cuernavaca Open on the Nationals Grade 2 level.

Perez-Lopez was a finalist in the Monterrey Open two years in a row and also placed second in the Masters of Mexico where only the best 16 players in the country compete.

She has advanced to the finals of the JITIC Tournament in El Salvador three times, winning it all in singles one year and finishing runner-up in doubles/singles in another year.

In the National Olympics, she has won bronze, silver and gold in doubles during a four-year span while also claiming the bronze medal in singles in 2013.

Perez-Lopez has been ranked as high as No. 1 in her country and was selected to represent Mexico in two qualifying events for junior fed cup as well as in international tours in South America and Central America and the winter tour in the United States.
