LAFAYETTE, La. - The Louisiana Tech tennis team racked up 13 singles and three doubles wins in the rain-shortened Ragin' Cajuns Fall Classic, a two-day ITA sanctioned tournament hosted by UL-Lafayette this past weekend.
The entire seven-member squad participated in the event which featured seven flights of singles and three flights of doubles.
After winning only two of the first round singles matches, the Lady Techsters responded by winning ten straight in singles and doubles combined to round out day one.
With senior Melanie Urvoy, sophomore Taly Merker, freshman Jazmin Britos and freshman Marta Sramkovaeach suffering first round defeats, all four players bounced back to win two matches apiece on Saturday.
The doubles tandems of Nalborska/Starkova, Sramkova/Britos and Merker/Chiacchio claimed first round victories, but that was as far as the three flights went due to inclement weather.
LA Tech's 16 total wins was the most of any team participating at Cajun Courts. McNeese State and Nicholls State each had 15.
The tournament field also included Arkansas State, Lamar, UL-Monroe, Mississippi State, New Orleans, Northwestern State, Southern Miss and the host school.
The squad returns to fall action on Oct. 11-12 at the Lady Demon Invitational in Natchitoches, La.
