LA Tech Overpowers Field at Lady Demon Invite with Six Flight Titles

Lady Demon Invite Results Get Acrobat Reader

NATCHITOCHES, La. - The Louisiana Tech tennis team was unstoppable on day two, overpowering the field to the tune of four singles and two doubles flight titles at the Lady Demon Invitational on the hard courts of the Jack Fisher Tennis Complex.

LA Tech netters competed in seven total flights, winning flights one through four in singles and flights one and three in doubles.

Doubles was the first action of the day with semifinals and finals being played. The duo of Marta Sramkova and Jazmin Britos won 8-3 in the semis and demolished Jagau/Stevenson (Sam Houston State) in the finals with an 8-0 victory.

Melanie Urvoy teamed up with Anna Peacock of McNeese State to advance to the finals with an 8-3 win before rallying to defeat Petaia/Costa (Sam Houston State) 8-6 in the finals. The duo was down 6-4 and 40-love before mounting a furious comeback to win the flight.

When it came time for the singles finals, no opponent posed a threat to the Lady Techsters. Joanna Nalborska reeled in the first singles title from flight one with a 6-0, 6-3 win over home favorite Tatiana Larina (Northwestern State).

Sramkova followed in the early session with a 6-4, 6-0 victory versus Viven Borbely (McNeese State) to claim the flight two title.

The flight three final ended up as a friendly between teammates Manoela Chiacchio and Britos. The two only played an eight-game pro set with Britos taking it 8-2.

The sixth and final champ was Urvoy in flight four who had no problem disposing of her opponent Tina Rupert (Stephen F. Austin) 6-3, 6-0.

LA Tech hopes to continue its fall success going into the ITA Southern Regionals on Oct. 17-21 in Auburn, Ala. on the campus of Auburn University.

The tournament serves as a regional individual championship and also as a qualifier for the USTA/ITA National Indoors Championships which will be held at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y. on Nov. 7-10.
