RUSTON - Three productive fall tournaments have prepared the Louisiana Tech tennis players for the biggest tournament of the season, the ITA Southern Regionals to be played on the campus of Auburn University in Auburn, Ala. on Oct. 18-21.
The tournament serves as a regional individual championship and also as a qualifier for the USTA/ITA National Indoors Championships which will be held at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y. on Nov. 7-10.
"I am excited about this weekend's tournament at Auburn," acting head coach Katherine Reigelman said. "The girls have performed well in the last few tournaments thanks to their hard work and preparation. This tournament will allow them to face some nationally-ranked players and I am eager to see how they compete."
LA Tech is coming off its most impressive performance of the fall, overpowering the field at the Lady Demon Invitational to the tune of four singles and two doubles flight titles.
The team competed in seven total flights, winning flights one through four in singles and flights one and three in doubles.
The competition gets stiffer though at the ITA Southern Regionals, a field which includes the host school as well as Alabama, Nichols State, Tulane, South Alabama, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, LSU, McNeese State, UL-Monroe, Samford, Troy and UAB.
Tournament draws for the four-day event will be revealed Thursday night at 7 p.m. at the coaches meeting.
The main singles draw will be a full 64-person draw with 16 seeded players. The main doubles draw will be a full 32-person draw with eight seeded players.
There will also be a 32-person B singles draw.
All matches will start at 8:00 a.m. with the exception of Championship Monday which will have a start time of 10:00 a.m.
