AUBURN, Ala. - After opening up day one with three doubles loss, the Louisiana Tech tennis team responded with nine singles wins on day one of the ITA Southern Regionals at the Yarbrough Tennis Center on the campus of Auburn University.

LA Tech notched victories over SEC foes Mississippi State, LSU, Ole Miss and Auburn as one player (Joanna Nalborska) advanced to the round of 16 in the main draw and two players (Taly Merker and Melanie Urvoy) advanced to the quarterfinals of the B draw.

Nalborska, the No. 9 seed, picked up back-to-back straight set wins, 6-0, 6-1 over Ariel Morton from LSU and 6-2, 6-3 over Marija Milutinovic from Ole Miss. Her next match will be a showdown of seed players as she takes on the No. 5 seed Erin Routliffe of Alabama.

Marta Sramkova and Alexandra Starkova cruised to straight set wins of their own in the first round, but both fell in hard fought battles against seeded opponents.

Sramkova lost in three sets 6-2, 0-6, 6-3 to the No. 4 seed Klara Vyskocilova of Tulane and Starkova dropped a 6-4, 6-3 decision to the No. 2 seed Mary Anne Daines of Alabama.

In the B draw, Merker and Urvoy gutted out three combined third set tiebreakers to reach the quarterfinals. Merker took down the home favorite Lindsey Whitehead of Auburn 6-4, 6-3 to advance. Urvoy dominated the 10-point tiebreaker versus in-state foe Emma Kranendonk of Nicholls State 6-1, 3-6, 1-0 (3) to also advance.

Manoela Chiacchio and Jazmin Britos in singles, as well as all three doubles teams, are all still alive in the consolation brackets of their respective draws.
