Merker reached the finals of B draw by notching her fourth straight win of the four-day tournament, a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Amy Lowther of UAB. However, the sophomore ran out of steam as she dropped a 6-1, 6-0 decision to Mary-Angela Martin of South Alabama.
Chiacchio had an impressive run of her own in the B draw consolations after dropping her first round match. The sophomore overpowered Olivia Brooke Durden of Troy, 6-1, 6-1 in the quarterfinals and Lindsey Whitehead of Auburn, 6-3, 6-2 to reach the finals.
She split the first two sets with Catherine Ragan of UAB before falling in the third set tiebreaker 6-3, 2-6, 1-0 (4).
Overally, LA Tech claimed 14 total singles wins including victories over SEC players from LSU, Ole Miss, Mississippi State and Auburn.
The Lady Techsters conclude their fall season this weekend as they travel to Hattiesburg, Miss. to participate in the Golden Eagles Classic on Oct. 25-27.
