LA Tech Tennis Completes Impressive Fall Season

RUSTON - The Louisiana Tech tennis team officially concluded its impressive fall season last weekend at the ITA Southern Regionals on the campus of Auburn University in Auburn, Ala.

In four regional tournaments, LA Tech compiled 72 total wins along with six main draw flight wins in singles and three in doubles. Combining main draw and consolation, the Lady Techsters had 20 flight finals appearances.

"I'm very pleased with all that our team has accomplished this fall," acting head coach Katherine Reigelman said. "The girls have practiced and competed with intensity, even while battling through and recovering from a few injuries. They have represented LA Tech will class at each tournament.

"Last weekend, our players competed against top-ranked players from schools across the southeast and their results were impressive. The tournaments they have competed in have prepared them well for the spring season."

The team started the fall season off in impressive fashion with finals appearances in doubles and in two flights of singles to take the team title at the Big Easy Tennis Classic in New Orleans, La.

Two weekends later at the Cajuns Tennis Classic in Lafayette, LA Tech posted 16 wins, the most by any participating team at the tournament.

The Louisiana Tech tennis team followed that up with their best performance, overpowering the field to the tune of four singles and two doubles flight titles at the Lady Demon Invitational in Natchitoches.

LA Tech netters competed in seven total flights, winning flights one through four in singles and flights one and three in doubles.

To cap off the schedule, the team competed in the ITA Southern Regionals and held their own as the Techsters were able to knock off opponents from SEC foes Mississippi State, LSU, Ole Miss and Auburn.

Sophomore Taly Merker reeled off four straight singles wins to reach the finals of the B Draw and sophomore Manoela Chiacchio lost in a third set tiebreaker in the consolation finals of B Draw.



The team will now focus their energy in preparation for its first spring season in Conference USA.
