RUSTON--The Louisiana Tech tennis team will travel to Tyler, Texas this weekend to participate in the UT-Tyler Tournament and its final matches of the fall season.
"This tournament will give us a better idea of where we stand at this point," Tech head coach Quintin Yray said. "The tournament will have some tougher competition, but I think playing tougher competition in the fall will help in making us better for the spring."
Last time out, the Techsters swept Grambling State University in their inaugural match at the new tennis facility at Tech. This weekend, however, Tech may be without one of their top performers in senior Ada Makowska. Makowska picked up a win for the Techsters against Grambling State earlier this season winning 6-1, 6-0.
"Ada is going to see the trainer today to see what the final decision will be," said Yray. "Of course we would love to have her this weekend, but if she is unable to go it will give some of the younger girls like Maartje (de Wit) a chance to step up."
Playing in the No. 1 spot last match de Wit was impressive winning her first career match 6-2, 6-3 against Grambling State.
After the tournament this weekend Tech will not return to action until Jan. 30, 2009 when they travel to Nacogdoches, Texas to face Stephen F. Austin and then the University of Houston on Jan. 31.
